Emma McLeod receives an Order of Australia

For the Stillbirth Foundation Australia, the Queen's Birthday public holiday this year was a little more special. Traditionally the day is dedicated to commemorate the birth of a Queen, but this year we feel it was given over in some small way to mark the birth of so many who are not forgotten.

This year, Emma McLeod was recognised on the Queen's Birthday honours list with the title of OAM.

Emma was recognised for her herculean effort of founding and continuing to run the Stillbirth Foundation Australia, since its inception in October 2005.

Today the charity represents the voices of thousands of Australians who have been touched by stillbirth and who seek answers. Over the last six years Emma has overseen the fundraising efforts of a growing network of committed volunteers, and through the structure of the charity has managed to invest more than $500,000 into the country's premier researchers and universities. The Stillbirth Foundation Australia is nationally recognised as a leading voice on the subject of stillbirth, and strives to deliver current and vital information to the state based health networks.

Last year Emma was responsible for convincing the NSW Premier, the Hon. Kristina Keanelly MP, to become patron of the charity, securing an even greater public profile for the issue of stillbirth.

Emma is a passionate and enthusiastic individual who believes that anything is achievable, regardless of the obstacles we might face.
